Show @ the Topsfield Public Library

I had a great show opening earlier this week. I want to share the info for my paintings with you all because I think it provides some context for this collection, "Kitsch". First, here is the show description:

Kitsch is defined as "art, objects, or design considered to be in poor taste because of excessive garishness or sentimentality, but sometimes appreciated in an ironic or knowing way."

In this show, I explore the recent popularity of the 'kitsch' aesthetic through painting listings from Etsy, a popular online platform for artisans. All of these paintings are depictions of Etsy listings described as kitschy, with the exception of "Kitsch", which is a portrayal of a Pinterest post labeled "kitschy decor", and "I Don't Want To Work I Want To Live", which is inspired by the Do-It-Yourself movement and punk zines from the '90s (a predecessor of DIY).

I am drawn to the kitsch aesthetic for the way it brings joy and a sense of humor to people's homes. I hope that this show brings you joy, as well!
